There are, mostly they're background characters, though Twilight Sparkle's brother was introduced at the end of season two, and is fairly important, if often off screen.

A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.
I'd forgotten about Big Mac. Probably mostly because I would like to forget the entire Apple family... There are also one or two male Wonderbolts, Mr. Cake, Prince Blueblood (strangely not a winged unicorn, just a unicorn. And a douche). Twilight's dad, I think Pinkie's dad was shown, Snips, Snails, and the (disturbingly often r34'd) pinto, whatever his name is. The only one who is actually plot-important, and a pony, is Shining Armor, Twi's brother. Big Mac is basically... a set piece. Seriously, he does some heavy lifting, but is otherwise just around to have horrible things happen to him when a villain pops up. Mr. Cake's most plot important act was schtupping Mrs. Cake so Pinkie had a couple of kids to baby sit. Other than them, there are one or two episode wonders (Braeburn, Joe Donut, Blueblood, Snowball-a 'roided out pegasus, Prince Sombra) and males that pop up in the background (Whooves, guards, the couple of Wonderbolts) and non-ponies (Spike-Twi's baby dragon familiar/research assistant, Discord-chimeric dragon-pony chaos god thing voiced by John de Lancie, though possibly formerly a pony...)

It did and from their point of view (given the magic 8 ball eye effect at restoration), it probably sucked to think they were horrible failures for their entire lives, but from Twilight's (and the audience) POV, things were fucked up from that morning to... lunch. Maybe midafternoon. And it only went that long because Twilight decide to have a weird emo moment watching the rain.Prak_Anima wrote:It was vaguely implied that the mix up basically erased their entire life memories, so they couldn't even think "Hm, I remember seeing some pony doing this, how'd they do it? I'll try that!" but equally stupidly did not give them entire lifetimes of memories so they could think "well, I've made it this far, apparently, so I must be able to do this!" The result was that the new reality, even if it was only a perceived reality, was that five ponies had become important members of the community while completely incompetent at their jobs.
Interestingly there is some meta-humor going on with some of the cutie mark switches. In previous incarnations, 'Rainbow Dash' was a fashion obsessed non-pegasus with Rarity's personality (and a similar hairstyle) while the 'party pony' was a pegasus named Surprise. Happily I only know this from fanfics, and pretty decent ones if you follow the twisted AU it belongs in.

Also, Starswirl may have been a major asshole, because this ultimate spell of his seems to really lean towards being a major curse.

There was a supposed spoiler leak from someone saying they were an audio engineer intern at a company handling some of the voice over stuff for FIM-
Supposedly her boss treated her to some sound files from a future episode that reveals Starswirl was an affable chaos magician who became the entropic Discord. And this last spell certainly seems like a Discord-sort of thing to do.

So...my girlfriend heard about a new wave of My Little Pony merchandise coming out, and being put on shelves yesterday. We stopped by four Wal-Marts yesterday and today to look for them, and found nothing. Last night, we saw a horde of roughly a dozen younger guys (teenage to college age, roughly) pour out of a Wal-mart, cheering and hollering. We thought nothing of it.
Checking the internet today, and we find a picture of those guys (same outfits, so it was taken last night) along with their 'spoils' from last night. They stated they went to at least four different Wal-marts that night and bought their ENTIRE stock of new MLP stuff at each one as part of some major brony movement to convince Hasbro to make new stuff.
Meanwhile, we continue our search for a MLP notepad.

My disposable income lately isn't much, but it has been getting some lego creator sets for my 4 year old. It's a hoot watching him read the directions and build stuff like this all on his own:Prak_Anima wrote:Damn people of my age with far too much disposable income...

To keep things MLP related, for Friendship Day (the P.C. name for Valentine's Day at preschool) my 4 year old chose MLP valentines to send to his classmates.

Crap, now I'm going to have to get a new Twilight Sparkle doll.
I can say one thing: If Season 4 sucks, I can be happy pretending their were only three seasons of MLP. Seriously, I thought that was a good way to end the series if that's the case.
We'll see how next year goes.

I really hate leaks that are disturbingly plausible in context. It could be true, or it could just be a not unreasonable guess based on two of this seasons episodes.Prak_Anima wrote:There was a supposed spoiler leak from someone saying they were an audio engineer intern at a company handling some of the voice over stuff for FIM-

I almost like it, simply because it has horrible implications for anyone who fails this sort of 'test.'
As long as he doesn't turn out to be the brother/lover of Celestia/Luna. Feel free to parse those slashes however. Given the Brony community, they are clearly multiple choice.
I prefer the ship of Discord/Chrysalis, personally...

I finally watched the coronation. It makes me wonder...
1) What did Cadence do to earn her princessness?
2) What land will Twi rule over?
3) Why all the stupid songs?

My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.
My girlfriend's theory for the songs is so the bronies will be too busy making remixes of all the songs until the next season. The more likely one is the the fact they were working on the 7th episode when the execs barged in with a demand that Twilight become an alicorn princess, so the sudden change in plotline to accommodate made padding a requirement.Maj wrote:I finally watched the coronation. 1. She was born. Perhaps this is my interpretation, but Twilight is the first ascended princess. Luna, Celestia, and Cadence were just born having power over fundamental forces (Day, Night, and Love, respectively). Twilight is the first ascended goddess of Magic (the fact that honor was earned rather than born sets better with me than being born that way).Maj wrote:I finally watched the coronation. 2. Not sure. If they take her too far away from ponyville I'm going to be very critical and maybe stop watching the show entirely. they changed it, so now it sucks.
3. You misspelled "awesome".

Yeah, Cadence was a princess (apparently Alicorn is canon now, as Twi is referred to as such in the episode) back when she was Twi's foalsitter, this implies she was born a princess.

Ah, the inane argument against immortality. Odds are pretty high that people you know will die on you even if you aren't immortal. Learn to live with it, or not, but it isn't some weird curse attached to immortality, but something that seems pretty innate to the universe.Count Arioch the 28th wrote:Twilight Sparkle is now cursed to watch everyone she ever loved or cared about or knew grow old and die...
Plus for Twilight it _really_ isn't that bad. A noticeable percentage of people she actually cares about are immortal (3) or excessively long lived (1). There are a grand total of 8 other people that feature in her life in a significant way, and she almost certainly would have outlived her parents as a given, and probably Rainbow and Pinkie, just from lifestyle alone.
There is also some chance that there will be more immortals, with said friends as front-runners on the list.
To paraphrase Lewis Black "Well she'll just have to get new ones, won't she."Count Arioch the 28th wrote:Twilight Sparkle is now cursed to watch everyone she ever loved or cared about or knew grow old and die...
Also, I'm amused that you call out Dash and Pinkie for dying sooner due to lifestyle. I'm not saying I disagree, necessarily, just amused.

If Dash doesn't die young, she'll end up like the old WWI Flying Ace in The Mummy (the first Brendan Frasier one).Prak_Anima wrote: Also, I'm amused that you call out Dash and Pinkie for dying sooner due to lifestyle. I'm not saying I disagree, necessarily, just amused.

I statted up Ponies in Runequest. I'd been considering trying to get it into my friend's extremely loose Glorantha game, but then the guy who normally runs on Saturdays was back from Con season for a weekend and said "well, I hate to do this again, but I have a new idea for a game, so we're ending the one we left off on, and we're doing this" and said he wanted us to create the culture our character comes from.
I'm not sure I'll play a pony, but he said it was cool if we provided more than just our personal character's background.
Runequest works decently for the ponies, actually:

Base Stat Rolls
Str 3d6 (Earth) or 2d6+3 (Pegasus/Unicorn)
Con 3d6
Siz 2d6+3 (about the size of a wolf)
Int 2d6+6
Pow 2d6+3 (Earth/Pegasus) or 3d6 (Unicorn)
Dex 2d6+3 (Earth/Unicorn) or 3d6 (Pegasus)
Cha 3d6
Hit Locations as Horse (or pegasus)
Kick attack at 1d4, Unicorns also have a horn attack for 1d4
Movement 12m, Pegasus Ponies fly at 15m and can walk on clouds (it's possible, especially in your world, that cloudwalking isn't inherent to pegasi, but rather the result of a magical affect which lets any creature with wings, and thus a runic connection to air, walk on clouds. Magic which grants wings could also confer the necessary runic affiliation for the duration of the spell, and the show has a spell that allows the target to walk on clouds without granting wings).
Magic
Ponies have 3 magnitude of inherent magic. This may require taking a spell and treating it as a different type of magic (such as treating Emotion, a rune spell, as a Sorcery spell).
Earth ponies have 3 mag of Common Magic. If more than one spell, they must be thematically related. Must be "+%" spells.
Pegasus ponies have 3 mag of Common Magic.
Unicorns have Sorcery (personal "grimoire") and Manipulate. A unicorn's personal "grimoire" contains one, or possible two related, abilities, and Fly (because that's what Telekinesis is in RQ).
In their lands, pony types act, somewhat, like castes. There isn't a strict hierarchy, but they are divided into "usual functions."
Earth ponies tend to and have a deep connection with the land. Many are farmers, herbalists or animal tenders. It is not unusual for them to hold other jobs, however, as ponies are civilized, and do not each have to tend their own farms. The ponies' myths say that only earth ponies are capable of growing crops.
Sample earth pony common magic themes, or "Special Talents," include apple farming (+30% to Lore plant rolls made in relation to growing apples), entertainment (+10% influence, dance and sing), Cooking (+30% cooking)
Pegasi live in cloud villages and manage the weather over pony lands. They are essentially a weather militia, in that not every pegasus has to fulfill this tribal responsibility at all times, but they can all be drafted into weather service when deemed necessary. Pegasi are noted as having been a tribe of skilled warriors in the past, but in contemporary times, live peacefully with earth and unicorn ponies. Pegasi alter the weather through physical interaction with it. They can kick clouds and cause them to disperse, or make a raincloud produce lightning by kicking it (though it's weak lightning). They can also move small clouds about as one might a piece of furniture. There is an episode where the entire pegasus population of the nation counters a tornado with combined wing gust.
Sample Pegasus Special Talents: Speed (+3m movement, +3 strike rank), Daring (+20% persistence).
Unicorns are the closest the race has to a noble caste (other than the princesses [alicorns/horned pegasi/winged unicorns/choose your word for this thing], but they're more ascended than noble...), but this denotes no real tendency to rule. (the mayor of the featured town is an earth pony). Typically they have less "necessary," more creative/intellectual roles or professions. Unicorns have greater inherent magic than earth or pegasus ponies, but are similarly limited. Sample Unicorn Special Talents: Magic (+5%/Mag to Grimoire skill), Armour (Damage Resistence, Protective Circle), Beautification (Sense Gem, +5%/Mag Craft Clothing), Harmony (Emotion-Calm).

The first half of the finale was not bad. Would have been better if it got an entire episode, and if it had a solution that wasn't so blindingly obvious. Seriously, pre-air leaks I heard made me think that Twilight was going to put everyone where they were supposed to be as a stopgap measure and then we'd get 10 minutes or so of people fumblefutzing through what should be second nature to them except their Cutie Marks are now pulling them in another direction (So they're not complete failures like the people who got their marks, but they're still amusingly inept), while Twilight works out a spell to fix everything, and that Twilight would earn her wings by writing a new spell from scratch and not patching a broken spell someone else wrote.
The second half of the episode wasn't worth compressing the first half, seriously it was basically 10-15 minutes of everyone gushing about how Awesome and Special Twilight Sparkle is, like she's some sort of self-insert character from a bad fanfic.
